This story is part of our new Patient Stories series, where we share real experiences from people in our community who have worked with Dr. Bob Curtis at Advanced Sports Chiropractic.
After being rear-ended in a high-speed car accident, Mirabai Bangs’ life changed overnight. The impact left her with whiplash, strain throughout her arms, and pain that radiated through her body. “It kind of affected my whole body,” she recalled. “I had my hands on the steering wheel, gripping, and when he hit me, my hands flew off. I was braking, trying not to hit the person in front of me.”
Discovering Care and Support
Mirabai first came to Advanced Sports Chiropractic after hearing about the clinic from her hairdresser, who recommended Dr. Rachel Hetherington, DC. “She said Rachel was great, so I came to see her,” Mirabai said. “It feels really good. She releases the muscles and gets my bones back aligned.”
Recovery with Compassion
For Mirabai, the accident was made even more complicated by her rheumatoid arthritis, which intensified her pain and inflammation. “It just pushed that into high gear,” she explained.
Each visit brought small but steady progress. “It’s been gradual, though I can say I’m gradually getting better,” she said. “I don’t think I could function without coming here because my muscles keep pulling my back and neck and lower back out of joint.”
Alongside chiropractic care, Mirabai also benefited from massage therapy. “Rachel has worked on my hands, massaging them...So that's helped, too.”
A Gradual Return to Balance
Despite ongoing challenges, Mirabai’s commitment to her recovery has helped her regain mobility and confidence in daily activities. “It really helps you to maintain a healthy body and mind and spirit. You become gradually more flexible and get your bearings back."
When asked to sum up her experience, she said:
“They help you get back to the flow of your life and make you feel better gradually along the way.”
