For nearly five years, he had been dealing with lower back problems that limited his ability to enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and other sports he loved. “It’s kind of an odd thing when back problems occur,” Sherard explained. “It’s not something that people really plan for or understand. It just feels foreign. I learned the value of having a good chiropractor by working with Bob.” > [          View this post on Instagram                      ](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPW62yVgfAi/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading) > > [A post shared by Advanced Sports Chiropractic (@sportschiropracticbellingham)](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPW62yVgfAi/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading)   ## Finding the Right Fit Sherard first discovered Dr. Bob Curtis while searching for a chiropractor who understood mountain sports. “I think I googled people who have, like, a little bit of a skiing background, not just mountain sports background,” he said. “Those are the things I do, so I wanted someone who would understand how those activities relate to issues that might arise in my back.” That connection proved to be invaluable. “He’s a great partner in helping you analyze and find the root cause of your problems,” Sherard shared. “For me, I tend to be pretty analytical, so having someone who speaks that language has been important.” ## Support Beyond Recovery After suffering a significant injury—a herniated disc in his low back—Sherard questioned if he’d ever get back on his bike or skis. “I didn’t know if I was going to return to mountain biking or skiing from an injury I had a year ago,” he said. “Bob was pretty confident from the start. He said I’d get back. I just didn’t understand at the time what that would look like.” Recovery wasn’t just about healing. It was also about learning new ways to move and protect his body. “It was about rewiring—my muscle balance, my posture, how my body is structured,” Sherard explained. ## Back to the Podium Nearly a year after his injury, Sherard is back on the trails and slopes. “I got a podium at a race a month ago,” he said. “Things are feeling good. But it’s not without constant management and being wise about the injury. That’s critical.” Sherard credits Dr. Curtis and the team at Advanced Sports Chiropractic for guiding him through recovery. “It’s been excellent.
