Keep Your Muscles in Motion

Tips for a Healthy Road Trip

It’s the time of year for warmer-weather adventures – which often means long car rides. Sitting for long periods of time can be uncomfortable, even more so if you aren’t planning your posture and breaks.

Below are a few self-care tips I like to share with my patients as they plan their journeys:

Before You Drive

  1. Adjust your driver seat to be as close to the steering wheel as comfortably possible.

  2. Raise or lower your seat so that your knees are slightly higher than your hips.

  3. Position your headrest so that the top of the headrest reaches the top of your head.

While on the Road

  1. Support your lower back with your seat’s lumbar support. Alternatively, you can use a rolled up small towel or a lumbar cushion.

  2. Plan frequent breaks outside of the car: Take a short walk. Stretch your muscles to increase blood flow.

Consider a visit to Advanced Sports Chiropractic for pre-trip treatment or a massage.

We can help prepare you for your road trip and outdoor adventures with personalized muscle care.
