Tips for a Healthy Road Trip
It’s the time of year for warmer-weather adventures – which often means long car rides. Sitting for long periods of time can be uncomfortable, even more so if you aren’t planning your posture and breaks.
Below are a few self-care tips I like to share with my patients as they plan their journeys:
Before You Drive
- Adjust your driver seat to be as close to the steering wheel as comfortably possible.
- Raise or lower your seat so that your knees are slightly higher than your hips.
- Position your headrest so that the top of the headrest reaches the top of your head.
While on the Road
- Support your lower back with your seat’s lumbar support. Alternatively, you can use a rolled up small towel or a lumbar cushion.
- Plan frequent breaks outside of the car: Take a short walk. Stretch your muscles to increase blood flow.
Consider a visit to Advanced Sports Chiropractic for pre-trip treatment or a massage.
