Active Release Technique (ART)

What is Active Release Technique (ART)?

Imagine your muscles and other soft tissues as a complex network of rubber bands. Now, when you overuse these 'rubber bands' or injure them, they can develop what we call adhesions - think of these as knots or sticky spots in the rubber bands.

These adhesions can cause pain, limit your movement, and even trap nerves. That's where ART comes in. It's a hands-on treatment that helps us find these problem areas and break them up.

What Does ART Treatment Look Like?

During an ART session, your chiropractor will use their hands to feel for these tight or knotted areas in your muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Then, while they apply specific pressure to these spots, they'll ask you to move in particular ways. This combination of pressure and movement helps to 'unstick' those adhesions, kind of like smoothing out a wrinkled shirt.

The goal is to restore proper motion and function to your tissues, which can help reduce pain, improve flexibility, and get you moving more freely. It's particularly effective for issues caused by overuse or repetitive motions.

Each session is pretty quick - usually about 8 to 15 minutes - and we focus on your specific problem areas. Some patients feel relief right away, while others might need a few sessions to see significant improvement.
